Kimmy Schmidt comes to New York City for the first time to appear on The Today Show after a fifteen year ordeal living in an underground bunker with a small cult, where she was led to believe the apocalypse wiped out everyone else on earth. Once free, she decides to stay in the city, where with gleeful optimism she experiences every spirit-crushing ordeal a new New Yorker is confronted with. As you already know from the name of the show, none of this breaks her, and that's part of the show's charm: this naive young woman from Indiana has got a little bit of unexpected natural street smarts in her.

The new Netflix series hit the platform at midnight this morning (all 13 episodes, which were originally meant to air on NBC), and has been receiving rave reviews leading up to its premiere—you can't really lose when Tina Fey is on board, and her voice can be heard all over the show, through various characters. Fey also manages to avoid many classic sitcom pitfalls, which is incredibly refreshing, even if we expected nothing less.
Fey created the series along with another 30 Rock alum, Robert Carlock, and it stars the long-deserving-of-her-own-series Ellie Kemper (who you know from The Office and Bridesmaids). She'll be joined by Jane Krakowski (the crazy rich lady boss), Carol Kane (the landlady), and Tituss Burgess (the roommate) throughout the series.
