What if instead of rearranging New York's street grid to look more like another city you were to try and tidy it up? That's what French artist Armelle Caron did a few years ago with her tout bien rangé series which cleans up not just New York but also Berlin, Istanbul, Paris and more. And the results are surprisingly intriguing.

Deconcrete describes Caron's work deconstructing cities quite nicely, saying that it

reveals a hidden experience to any pedestrian, by reshaping the banality of diverse urban fabrics. She translates them into a sort of notes on a score. And in this score, one can re-read the rhythm of a city with rectangular blocks, mega-blocks, super-blocks, medieval corners, triangular Baroque language, or longitudinal coastal strips.

It also makes us really want to do a jigsaw puzzle.
