The great (big) pumpkins are back, Charlie Brown! Take advantage of that unseasonably warm weekend weather to get some fresh air during the New York Botanical Garden's Giant Pumpkin Weekend, this Saturday and Sunday, October 21st and 22nd. The formidable gourds come to the NYBG courtesy of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth. This year, the largest pumpkin in the world hails from Sumner, Washington, weighing in at a whopping 2,363 pounds.
Giant Pumpkin Weekend runs as part of Scarecrows and Pumpkins, a sort of wholesome, outdoorsy incarnation of a Tim Burton movie set. This runs through October 31st, and features family friendly events, including presentations on the "Creepy Creatures of Halloween" and a trick-or-treat trail for the costumed wee ones.
