Iconic plastic couple Ken and Barbie broke up ages ago, back in 2004. But now Ken is apparently trying to get back together with her, even though he's hanging out in the West Village with a dye-job, oversized scarf, and procuring pink cupcakes. We started getting press releases yesterday. The first stating:
Just as Ken’s valiant effort to win Barbie back heats up, photos have emerged of Ken visiting the original Magnolia Bakery on NYC’s Bleecker Street yesterday.
His Foursquare shows a check-in at 9:26 am this morning, adding: “I think I have a great idea to get @BarbieStyle's attention. How about a personalized @magnoliabakery cupcake...”
...Ever the fashionisto, Ken was spotted in a black fedora, a light blue V-neck, dark jeans and white sneakers.
One Magnolia customer said, “He was saying the nicest things and you could tell he knows her really well. It seemed like they were made for each other.”
Then he made a cupcake especially for Barbie, and yadda yadda yadda, we're told he's also planning visits to Christie’s and Dylan’s Candy Bar. However, at this time, most voters are not encouraging Barbie to take back her old beau. Maybe she's just better off with Blaine, or whoever. Or maybe they read this Business Week article, declaring:
"Ken is gay. And Barbie oblivious? It's possible that more was behind those closet doors in Barbie's Dream House than her ever-expanding wardrobe. It wouldn't be the first time a beautiful woman has fallen for a gay man (witness Elizabeth Taylor's love for Montgomery Clift)."
Maybe Mattel should let Ken out of the closet?
