Over the weekend Red Hook came to life when New Yorkers flocked to the neighborhood for a rebirth parade, kayaking, celebratory dips in the river (which were frowned upon by the NYPD), and some dance dance dancin'. Photographer Tod Seelie was on hand to capture the The Red Hook Fest, where the theme this year was "Rebuild, Restore, Rebirth: Resilience after Sandy."

But even before Hurricane Sandy, the parade had been missing in previous summers— this was the first time it was held in 11 years—it featured community members and organizations, the always fun Hungry March Band, and the OWS Puppetry Guild with their dancing puppets.

Meanwhile, on the stage was world roots band The Brown Rice Family, hip-hop legends Kool Keith and Dead Prez, and bluegrass/hip-hop hybrid Gangstagrass (they sing that cool Justified theme song)...

Sadly, no Trey. This was the Red Hook Festival's 20th year in action, and organizers say it took on a "new importance as a chance to connect neighbors, to draw visitors, and to highlight the work of dozens of partners organizations."
