At the end of 2019, The Mandalorian became the first live action series set in the Star Wars universe, launching on the all-new Disney+ platform. There was much to recommend about it: Pedro Pascal became even more of a star, despite almost never showing his face; Amy Sedaris donned Ripley cosplay for a memorable cameo; and Bill Burr confirmed the existence of Space Boston. But the most important thing was that the show brought Baby Yoda (a.k.a. The Child) into our lives.

Werner Herzog was brought to tears by it. Laura Dern started seeing it everywhere she went. Humans are literally hardwired to love it and its precious ears. And now, New Yorkers will be watched over by it, thanks to an adorable new mural in the East Village.

The mural was put up this weekend at 2nd Avenue and Houston, just near the 2nd Avenue F stop, by street artist Will Power. "God blessed me with an amazing weekend. I couldn’t asked for any better weather! Beautiful, sunny, and warm!" he said in an Instagram post.

Power previously put a Baby Yoda mural up in Jersey City at the end of 2019, which you can see in the video below. "Great time painting this piece! The best part was seeing the reactions from the kids in the neighborhood! Priceless!" he said in the caption.

We swung by the Manhattan mural on Monday afternoon, and already saw people gathering for a photo, so we can only assume that Baby Yoda Ear Walls are the new Butterfly Wing Walls on Instagram. Unfortunately, that would cause an issue given the placement at the top of the subway steps...

Update: You can see a timelapse of Power putting up the mural below. He also noted that the mural will only be up until February 1st, if you're looking to snag a photo of/with it. And he explained why he likes painting Baby Yoda in the first place: "A lot of people asked me why I choose to paint Baby Yoda? My answer is I’m a big star wars fan and Baby Yoda is definitely fun to paint! Also I wanted to paint something that would make the neighborhood kids happy. It’s that simple! What better reason other than that!"
