It wasn't long ago that a lady on a bike wearing a skirt supposedly raised the eyebrows of a NYPD officer in Soho, who nearly ticketed her for daring to flash her gams. "Biking while sexy" is certainly not a crime, and after the incident, there was an outpouring of support towards women who choose to eschew the spandex-stigma and look fashionable while riding. While the Short Skirt Bike Ride was a little skimpy on attendance, Thursday's Skirts On Bikes! was a stronger show of pleated force.

Sponsored by the New Amsterdam Bicycle Show and Hudson Urban Bicycles, riders pedaled from the West Village, down to Tribeca and back. The ride also featured the skirted guerrilla marketer herself, Jasmijn Rijcken, who said of the ride, "Usually you feel fragile on a bike, [Thursday] we felt powerful. It's what bicycling should be: positive, friendly, and joyful." Regardless of whether or not you believe every word of her story, this much is true: women have been rocking skirts in the saddle for well over a century and it ain't going out of style.
