This photo captioned "men and women flirting with each other outside Broadway dance hall near Times Square" would have one believe that New York was filled with flirts... but perhaps times have changed since 1944. According to a new study, the "most flirtatious city" in the world is Athens, Greece. Followed by Moscow (2nd), Rome (8th), Madrid (31st), Paris (38th), London (57th), Berlin (79th), and finally New York at #89. According to Reuters, Lonely Planet's Athens expert agrees with the top result, calling the Greek capital "a seductive city, with a hedonistic lifestyle."

The study included "200 cities across the world in which [dating website, Badoo] analyzed 12 million flirtatious contacts made during a month, with 108 million users chatting and flirting in 180 countries." Ergo, the study only focuses on one website's pool, and not real life encounters at all.

Even if we do suck at flirting, Athens own Plato once said, "Love is a serious mental disease." So really what this study says is that we are all very sane here in New York City, right?
