It's been three years since The Dark Knight hit the big screen just after one of it's stars, Heath Ledger, was found dead inside his real life Gotham apartment. Now the final piece to Christopher Nolan's trilogy (before the franchise is rebooted) is shaping up and right on track to be your IMAX fix in 2012.
The Dark Knight Rises will allegedly be shooting under the alternate titles Magnus Rex and Fox Hills Green, so if you spot any signs around once filming gets underway this June, you know what to do. Filming will take place in India, London, Pittsburgh, and yes, New York City. According to Movieweb, the plot will surround Batman dealing with his new status as a wanted vigilante, as Dr. Hugo Strange, a villainous psychiatrist, concocts a plan to destroy him and become the new Batman.
As announced earlier today, joining the cast will be Marion Cotillard and Joseph-Gordon Levitt. According to EW, "Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, described as a Wayne Industries board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.' Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, described as 'a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon [played by Gary Oldman].'”
With Christian Bale returning as Batman, along with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Nestor Carbonell in their respective roles, things are looking good as long as Anne Hathaway's portrayal as Catwoman is better than her portrayal as an Oscar host.
