Express Yourself Madonna vs. Lady Gaga at the Grammys
Lady Gaga has released her new single, Born This Way—which she performed at the Grammys last night after emerging from her egg—and it's being criticized as a rip-off of Madonna's Express Yourself. The Fame Monster hasn't commented on the similarities, but did recently mention she wrote the song "in 10 fucking minutes," and even called it "an immaculate conception." Indeed! Madonna has also been silent about the similarities, but her brother Chris Ciccone told E! News, "They should have noticed, somebody should have noticed that the songs are so remarkably alike. They should have pulled it or at least said, 'Change it.' I was like, 'Express Yourself, wow.'" He also said Gaga is "like my sister on crack."
Could the Lady's admission to ripping off her Madgesty possibly have been hidden in her clothing last night? Gaga incorporated an awful lot of cones into her Grammy outfits... a motif Madonna incorporated into her own fashion during the Express Yourself-era. This wouldn't be the first time Gaga has copped someone's style... but we're guessing if she's forced to confront this, she'll be saturating her sentences with words like "tribute" and "inspired by"... or maybe "performance art."
