The Jeff Koons-curated exhibit titled Skin Fruit (a name which alludes to original sin) is now holding court throughout the New Museum. There are over 100 works on display, all from the Athens, Greece-based Dakis Joannou Collection, "renowned as one of the leading collections of contemporary art in the world." Koons's early work is said to have inspired the evolution of the collection, which he has now plucked from and put on display here for the first time in the U.S.
With the exhibit also comes the introduction of The Imaginary Museum, a "new exhibition series that will periodically showcase leading private collections of contemporary art from around the world, providing the opportunity for rarely seen, great works of art to be accessible to a broader public." This inaugural installation in the series, Skin Fruit, is now ripe for viewing (and criticizing!), and will be on display through June 6th.
