Welcome back to our new Q&A feature, Culture Quest, where we're asking the same set of questions to some of the notables stopping by the 92nd Street Y. Below, we find out the culture habits of Jason Biggs and Bryce Pinkham, who are both currently starring in The Heidi Chronicles.
Where do you get your news?
Jason Biggs: Mostly through Twitter. I follow The New York Times, Huffington Post, Vice, AP, The Daily Show, among others. The hard copy of the Sunday Times is pretty much my last remaining tactile indulgence, news-wise.
Bryce Pinkham: WNYC radio, New York Times, BBC Radio
What are your favorite websites?
JB: Twitter, GrubStreet, Curbed, New York Times, Instagram, more...
BP: ESPN, New York Times, Etsy, YouTube
What book are you currently reading?
JB:Dead Wake, by Erik Larson. It's about the Lusitania's final voyage.
BP:The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo - a must read for anyone who is desperate to organize their home once and for all.
What magazines do you subscribe to?
JB:Hard Copies: Architectural Digest, Monocle, National Geographic.
Digital (Zinio): Dwell, Los Angeles, The New Yorker, Scuba Diving, Afar, Wallpaper.
BP: The New Yorker
What's your favorite current TV show?
JB:House Of Cards
BP: Happy Valley. Nail biting drama, fabulous acting, and British people using those cute “other words for things” and steering on the “other” side of cars! Seriously though, amazing show. Worth your time.
What’s the last movie you saw?
JB:Birdman
BP: I watched my co-star Elisabeth Moss in “The One I Love.” She is what I like to call “good at acting.”
What’s the last performance (dance, opera, or theater) you attended?
JB:The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nightime
BP: I went to the Met and saw Carmen. Opera never ceases to amaze me. When I am there I feel like I have been transported to another time in history.
What’s the last music purchase you made?
JB:Sam Cooke's "You Send Me"
BP: I was looking for songs to help motivate strange, unpredictable and reckless dancing free of ego or control in a class/lecture I was teaching on physical comedy. So I had to download some songs that can’t help but make you want to dance that way. One of the them was Talking Heads “Same As it Ever Was.” Another was “Kiss” by Prince. Another was “Song for the Lonely” by Cher. Try playing those three in a row and dancing like nobody is watching, I think you’re gonna like what you find out about yourself. If that doesn't work, try Billy Joel, "All about Soul." If that doesn't work, then come find me cause you might need help sooner rather than later.
What’s your favorite piece of art in your home?
JB:A dramatic 10'x10' Jose Parla acrylic
BP: A framed original poster from a Buster Keaton Film Festival. It has lived in several Broadway dressing rooms of mine, and now it has taken up residence next to a print of Charlie Chaplin in “The Kid.” Good to have a few of my heroes nearby at all times.
What place in NYC (landmark, museum, or neighborhood) are you embarrassed to admit you've never visited?
JB: The Statue Of Liberty. [ed. note: this has been a popular answer!]
BP:The Cloisters. I'm dying to get up there when they have those people singing songs and getting all spiritual on nature's doorstep. That sounds awesome.
What are you most excited about right now?
JB: My son just started walking. So I'm excited, but also scared shitless.
BP: The Broadway Softball League starting soon. Central Park in spring is where sports and theater meet and agree to get along for a few glorious months every year. Come out and root us on!
This Sunday, March 29th, catch Elisabeth Moss, Jason Biggs, and Bryce Pinkham at the 92nd Street Y. They are currently in the Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning play, The Heidi Chronicles.
