There are benefits happening all over to help bring aid to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Tickets are still available to see the always-fantastic Yo La Tengo perform tonight at the legendary Maxwell's in Hoboken. All of the $50 you pay to get in will go directly to Peace Winds Japan, a Tokyo-based non-profit organization helping those displaced by the recent disaster. And since there's no opener, maybe that means we'll get a 30-minute long "Blue Line Swinger," or even a scene from Seinfeld!

There are several other benefit concerts for Japan taking place over the next few weeks that are worth noting:

  • Japan Society will have a day-long marathon concert on April 9, featuring Philip Glass & Hal Willner, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, John Zorn, Ryuichi Sakamoto solo, and Bill Laswell with gigi band—tickets are available here.
  • There's the Concert To Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief on April 8th, which will feature a boatload of artists for performances at 6:30 and 9:30 at the Abrons Arts Center at the Henry Street Settlement. Performers include Thurston Moore, John Zorn, Norah Jones and Jesse Harris. Tickets range from $35-50, and are available here.
  • The Riverside Church in Morningside Heights will host an Interfaith Time of Reflection for Japan event that will feature prayer and reflection by interfaith leaders, Japanese survivors and speakers from the area damaged by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as performances by Japanese musicians, this Sunday.
  • There will be two Bridge To Tokyo Benefit Concerts at City Winery March 30th and 31st, featuring "an intimate solo acoustic performance" by Citizen Cope and other bands who haven't been announced yet. The $35 tickets are available here.
