A 22-year-old man became the unwitting source of nightmares for thousands of tourists on Saturday as he sprinted across Times Square, dressed as a zombie, chasing a black and white cat. Lucky for that cat, Jeremy Zelkowitz, who dons the ghoulish getup semi-regularly to promote a nearby haunted house, was only trying to quench his thirst for kitteh blood help.

“I dress as a zombie every day and I just love animals — I try to do the right thing,” Zelkowitz told the Daily News, suggesting he had no idea that those thoughts have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

It turns out the cat, whose name is Disaster, had been missing from his cop owner for the past two years. Zelkowitz saw the terrified creature dashing in and out of traffic on 42nd Street, and decided to really, really freak it out by lumbering after it. Happily, Zelkowitz the Zombie was able to catch the cat and bring it to the vet, who managed to track down his owner thanks to a microchip. Weird, yes, but hardly the most disturbing thing to happen in Times Square.
