200801kittenbowl.jpgSometimes the only interesting parts of Super Bowl Sunday are the ads and the halftime show, and neither of those things are really that great. But not this year! On top of getting a home team in the big game, we get Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performing during the halftime.

It may have been quite some time since you last listened to Petty, who is about to go on a nationwide tour, so we highly recommend catching up with him through the 2007 documentary Runnin' Down a Dream. It's so good you'll hardly realize it's four hours long. It was part of the NYFF last year, and is currently available for purchase, though IFC has been airing it from time to time.

Not a Petty fan? Reuters offers up a host of other small screen options during half time. Our favorite: "Animal Planet, which for the past few years has aired the Puppy Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday, has begun to take it one step further -- it's airing its own halftime show, a kitten bowl, during halftime of the Puppy Bowl, roughly timing it to coincide with halftime of the game featuring humans."

Of course, if you're not parked on a couch then where to turn your attention to during halftime isn't really a problem, here are our suggestions on where to watch the game.
