One of the most anticipated events at this year's Tribeca Film Festival is coming from filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), who will be giving audiences a taste of his work-in-progress, untitled documentary about Eliot Spitzer. Gibney was somehow able to convince Spitzer to field questions about the prostitute scandal that was his downfall—or perhaps Spitzer really wants to open up about it? Whatever his motivation, the end result (judging by this clip) looks to be riveting, in an uncomfortable, want-to-look-away-but-can't sort of way.
The film will screen once at the TFF on Apr 24th; it's not known exactly when it will be released. Festival tickets are already on sale for American Express cardholders; on Sunday downtown residents will be able to buy tickets at the box office, with the general onsale Monday at 11 a.m. Details on tickets, which cost $16, are here, and you can peruse the festival lineup here.
Free events include the Tribeca Drive-In movie series from April 22nd - 24th at the World Financial Center, as well as the Family Festival Street Fair and Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day, both on Saturday, May 1st. And for the first time this year, film buffs can experience the festival without leaving their homes, through video-on-demand; more than 40 million households will be able to viddy 12 feature length films acquired by the recently launched Tribeca Film.
