Curt Schilling, a former All-Star pitcher and baseball analyst on ESPN, was fired by the sports network on Wednesday, just a day after he shared a transphobic meme on his Facebook page.

"ESPN is an inclusive company," the company said in a brief statement. "Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated."

On Tuesday, Schilling posted to his Facebook page a meme that showed a man wearing a wig and a racy outfit and had the message, "LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded, judgmental, unloving racist bigot who needs to die." The post was eventually taken down (Deadspin has a screenshot here).

According to the New York Times, Schilling added the comment, "A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don't care what they are, who they sleep with, men's room was designed for the penis, women's not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic."

While the post did not specify, it seemed to be in response to North Carolina's controversial anti-LGBTQ law.

Schilling later wrote on his personal blog a post titled The hunt to be offended..." to defend himself. In it he wrote:

You frauds out there ranting and screaming about my "opinions" (even if it isn't) and comments are screaming for "tolerance" and "acceptance" while you refuse to do and be either.
YOU'RE the ones making it the issue. I don't care, if you ask me about any of the topics it's likely (much to the chagrin of many) I'll answer with my opinion.
There are things I have deeply held beliefs in, things I have that are core to who I am, things I am passionate about. If you ask me about them it's likely I'll give you a passionate answer, whether you like that answer or not is completely up to you. I am not going to give you answers to make sure you like what I say, let the rest of the insecure world do that.

This is not Schilling's first time in trouble for something he posted to social media. In August he shared a meme comparing Muslims to Nazis, leading him to get suspended for a month.

That suspension led to him being replaced by analyst Jessica Mendoza, who has since taken his place in the Sunday Night Baseball booth. He joked about his situation in a September donation to Ben Carson, listing his employer as "ESPN (Not Sure How Much Longer)" and his job title as "Analyst (For Now Anyway)":

He later was suspended for the rest of the baseball season after a long-winded email to Awful Announcing defending himself (or something).

Schilling frequently posts right-wing and conservative memes on social media and argues with trolls on his Twitter account. In an interview with Boston's WEEI radio, he implied that being Republican cost him Hall of Fame votes.
