Celebrate Brooklyn! has released its schedule, and it's...diverse. The (mostly) free concert series is held annually in Prospect Park's bandshell, and though the lineup ain't what it used to be, there are still some gems scattered throughout the summer.
The nostalgic among us will doubtless be most excited about the perplexing presence of Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five and Guster on July 30, which is, unfortunately, one of only a handful of shows that require the purchase of an actual ticket. Also, Shaggy, of "It Wasn't Me" fame, will be performing on August 9, which will either be a lighthearted reminder of the past or induce a mass panic attack of latent middle school dance flashbacks. Consider the consequences carefully before attending.

On the poutier side of the nostalgia train, Belle and Sebastian will play with Yo La Tengo on July 11 (ticket required, siiiigh), but on the bright side, the Philip Glass Ensemble will perform a live accompaniment to a screening of Bela Lugosi's Dracula for free on July 13 (with opener Kishi Bashi ).
Os Mutantes, Javelin, and Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang—all of which are on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label, promise a proper dance party on June 29, or at least approving head nods from Brooklynites too cool to be seen bending their knees in public.
Beck The Reclusive Scientologist will be treating fans to one of his rare performances on August 4 (another one you're going to need a ticket to see), and They Might Be Giants will close out the summer on August 10.
This post is not comprehensive! Check out the rest of the summer's lineup here.
