In a neighborhood of metastasizing douchiness, chain restaurants, cookie-cutter venues and rising prices, Cake Shop is a haven for fresh music, cheap booze, and good people. But Brooklyn Vegan reports that owner Andy Bodor is in trouble, and due to "bogus fines," needs $10,000 in the next 72 hours to stay open. Since Bodor sent the email yesterday, he now only has 48 hours.

Bodor writes:

"calling all millionaires: cake shop needs a month-long returnable bridge loan, due to possibly bogus fines from last year, at their deadline this monday, or we face eviction. the amount we're looking for is 10k, to pay off these fines once and for all. we'd need it in the next 72 hours. & reminder this is a short term loan. full explanation provided, with intere$t and perks, if this appeals to you, and you'd like to help us out & continue & grow. thanks. xo."

Bogus fines? Those tickets for "Excessive Shredding" and "Face-Melting Without A Permit" can add up. Forget the "millionaires:" the site rightly points out that 1,000 people just need to spend $10. The Hairs are playing tonight for an $8 cover, but dig a little deeper. You don't want another panini joint, do you?

Here are some of our favorite Cake Shop shows over the past year or so. Do the right thing, people.
