020508yauch.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter has news that Beastie Boy Adam Yauch will be expanding his music and film production operation, Oscilloscope Laboratories, into indie film distribution. Under the nom de plume Nathanial Hörnblowér, Yauch has orchestrated many of the Beastie Boys videos, as well as the hip hop group’s inventive full-length concert doc Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! Oscilloscope also shot and produced live concert videos for Beck and Ryan Adams.

Former ThinkFilm vice president David Fenkel will run the unit with Yauch; they plan to pick up narrative and documentary features from festivals and provide finishing funds as well as distribution. The expansion is being self-financed by Yauch, who says, “We’re kind of winging it.”

According to their website, Oscilloscope Pictures will distribute films “in theaters, DVD, international and via osmosis. We are currently building a time machine. Check back soon for more info about folding space and time.” The first theatrical release is expected this summer; details are promised sometime next month.
