Some people see a clever subway advertisement for a prominent Brooklyn cultural institution, others see a cyclist without a helmet pedaling blithely along next to the ominous ad copy "BAM And Then It Hits You." One self-described "helmet crusader" is so vexed by the ad campaign that she's been modifying them by strapping a helmet to the cyclist's pretty, vulnerable skull.

"While the rest of the campaign is pretty clever, this one is just stupid and begging for an intervention," the crusader tells us. " 'BAM and then it hits you' juxtaposed with daydreaming on a bike in the dark with no lights or a helmet brings gruesome images to mind. So I fixed it. With scotch tape n paper." It's a good start—now she just needs to add a bike lane with a cop car parked in it.
