Polaroids of Jean-Michael Basquiat, a black marker sketch of James Dean and a gelatin silver print of the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center (circa 1982) are among the Andy Warhol works being offered for sale by Christie's this month. And it's not just any sale—it's an online-only auction that has what Christie's calls "approachably-priced artworks with starting bids at $1,500."
Amelia Manderscheid, Christie's head of eCommerce for Post-War & Contemporary Art, said, "This sale presents a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the Pop art master, from his views of New York to his immortalizations of close friends, including many who were famous in their own right. With this sale, we offer the new and seasoned collector alike the opportunity to acquire these moments captured in time.”
The sale is a partnership between Christie's and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, with proceeds benefiting the Warhol Foundation’s grant-making programs in support of artists and non-profit arts organizations.
