The Muppet Show, an excellent and occasionally surrealist kid-friendly variety show that's undergone several incarnations since 1976, may soon make soon be back on television. ABC is apparently filming a pilot presentation for what will hopefully go straight-to-series.

That is the good news. The bad news is that the project is being helmed by Bill Prady, the co-creator of a terrible-but-popular show called The Big Bang Theory. You may have heard of it. You may even like it, but if you do, you are wrong. The Muppet Show had great gags like this one:

Then again, decent showrunners like Bob Kushell (3rd Rock From The Sun) and Randall Einhorn (Wilfred) are also onboard, so there's some hope this won't devolve into unfunny drivel driven by laugh-track overkill.

The original Muppet Show ran from 1976 to 1981, and featured guest stars like Mark Hamill, Elton John, and Sylvester Stallone. If The Muppets does come back to life, it could join upcoming resurrected hits like X-Files, Twin Peaks and Full House.
