For everyone cozying up indoors because of the blizzard, here's an always fun way to pass the time: get ready to argue about 9/11 conspiracy theories! An "iconic" painting by Eugène Delacroix was defaced at a branch of the Louvre Museum in France yesterday just before closing. And the perpetrator apparently wrote, "AE911" on it—in reference to the 9/11 truther movement.
The painting, Liberty Leading the People, depicts the July Revolution in 1830 and it inspired Frederc Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty. BBC News reports, "The museum in the northern town of Lens said the work might easily be cleaned but would be examined by a restorer."
The 28-year-old woman who defaced the painting was described as "unstable" and prosecutors are awaiting a psychiatric evaluation.
The AE911truth.org website notes, "We do not know who the perpetrators of this crime are. Identifying the culprits is the purpose of a real criminal investigation. However, we are able to provide overwhelming evidence of a cover-up of this crime."
