The first Brooklyn burn came way before Sex and the City. On January 5th, 1905, this Dream of the Rarebit Fiend comic ran in the Evening Telegram, a newspaper published by the New York Herald. And just like on Sex and the City, it featured a couple begrudgingly moving to Brooklyn from Manhattan.

As Bowery Boys points out, Winsor McCay's comic "featured an individual trapped within a situation nightmarish for its day, only to be woken up in the final panel. The cause for the dream was almost always the same—a meal of rarebit the night before." Below, see how this borough-jumping nightmare played out.

As for its author, McCay died in 1934, and is buried in Evergreens Cemetery... in Brooklyn.
